Who is EventGeekie?

Vicky Twomey-Lee

Vicky is a techie, an advocate for diversity in tech, and a QQI certified Creative Trainer.

She worked at Sun Microsystems back in the day followed by wading knee deep in bills, amendments and motions at Propylon, then did a bit of freelancing which included being a Resident Tech Mystic for a startup. She fancied being a creative which took her back to study Masters in Multimedia (DCU) in the mid-noughts and continued are pursuit of creativeness by finishing a course on Creative Learning (NCAD) in March 2026.

She had the most wonderful experience curating ideas for a Science Gallery exhibition called GAME in 2012 which started her journey connecting with the amazing indie games community in Dublin and around Ireland.

Her past includes being a tech liaison between companies and the tech community groups to hosting events (very different to organising) to running game jams around the country. An Ambassador to AlterConf Dublin in 2016 and Global Diversity CFP Day (2017-2019).

She was the main organiser for Python Ireland user group for over 10 years, but nowadays she can be found organising and running community tech events around Dublin, and advocating diversity in tech. She even had an opportunity to collaborate in a Diversity in Games Programme with ReFig.

She also curated Allies track at  Career Zoo, brought the tech community together for 404 Dublin in Oct 2017, ran Allyship Skills workshops at Etsy and Workday, and helped organise family-friendly coding and game-making workshops at events like Inspirefest.

She was featured on Silicon Republic's 100 Top Women in STEM 2014 and on IrishCentral's talented 38 women of technology for 2014. She was formerly the Vice-Chair of WITS Ireland in 2016. Andhas been a judge for Diversity in Tech Awards.

Venturing into being a Maker, she had a wonderful time being one of the Makers in Residence at The Chester Beatty Library in 2018. She was also part of the Dublin Maker team as their first Maker Advocate in Ireland.

Her dream of having EuroPython coming to Dublin came true after waiting 10+2 years, when Vicky gave the opening speech at EuroPython 2022 as well as getting involved planning and organising PyLadies Lunch, the MakerFest, DjangoGirls Workshop, DEI Panel, Education Panel and Financial Aid team.

Currently you can find Vicky collaborating or running tech events and workshops for adults (18 & older), and curating Irish news and diversity in tech events for Coding Grace and diversityintech.fyi.

She's still active on the Python Software Foundation Grants Working Group representing Europe, and helps where she can in EuroPython and PyLadiesCon.

You will also find her seeking a way to bring more ALT.CTRL events to Ireland hand-in-hand with creative game jams as part of GameCraft. She's looking more into Creative Technology as well as open to collaboration with other creative artists, plus making lots of zines with an aim to running zine workshops in the near future.
